The Christian nation in Kaduna State has frowned at Governor Nasir El’rufai’s decision to pick a Muslim as his running mate.
DAILY POST recalls that the nation governor had on Friday announced the choice of Dr. Hadiza Balarabe as his running mate for next year’s general election, as the incumbent Deputy Governor, Barnabas Yusuf Bala, has opted to disappear to the National Assembly and has since emerged as the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate for the Kaduna South District.
Dr. Balarabe, born in 1966, is from Sanga Local Government, which is located in the Southern Kaduna senatorial district.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the leadership of Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) vowed that no individual can polarize Kaduna State along devout line.
SOKAPU President, Barr. Solomon Musa, told newsmen that only electorates can settle who will govern them approach 2019.
Musa said, “It is the prerogative of anyone aspiring for people office to select whoever he wants as his running mate, the incumbent governor has the correct to pick anybody of his selection. Remember it is not only individual party that is in Kaduna State, there are so numerous other parties.
“What we are hoping is that Kaduna State and southern Kaduna should never be polarized along religious line. So, if anybody decides to polarize Kaduna State along religious line, that again is that person’s prerogative,” he said.
Kaduna State chapter Secretary of CAN, Reverend Sunday Ibrahim, simply said, ‘it has never happened in Kaduna State for public of the same confidence to govern the nation. The electorates are those who will settle and not me.”
